Hunger striker remanded to judicial custody

IMPHAL, May 12: Tourangbam ongbi Tarini Devi who was badly injured in police excesses during a torch rally on May 8 endorsing the demand made by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) and decided to go fasting in support of the demand has been remanded to judicial custody.

Tarini Devi, 45 wife of Yaima alias Anil Singh of Uripok Sorbon Thingel Gopalaji Leirak, Imphal West has been fasting since the day she sustained the injuries.

After her health condition worsened, a team of Imphal Police Station picked her up from the site of her protest yesterday evening and admitted her to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) for treatment.

Soon after the Chief Judicial Magistrate/Imphal East remanded the hunger striker to judicial custody, Tarini Devi was officially handed over to the authority of Imphal Central Jail.

As her health condition deteriorated, she is being treated at JNIMS under the strict vigil of security personnel.
