Imphal, May 24: Only when urban local bodies and the ruling state government work in tandem the city will develop quickly, said deputy chief minister Gaikhangam.

Speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony of Ojit Panmei, the party’s IMC Ward No 1 candidate, at Namdulung Community Hall in Thangmeiband Constituency today, he said IMC have been upgraded from a council to a corporation and development of the city will happen faster in the near future.

He stated that three consecutive terms of the Congress party has brought regular supply of electricity and government is making preparation for supplying drinking water from Thoubal Multipurpose Dam.

Imphal is the mirror of Manipur and people from outside states can have a glimpse of Manipur by viewing the city. The urban body must work with the state government and thus there will be no benefit in handing power of the corporation to other political party, Gaikhangam.

Kikhonbou Newmai, vice-chairman of Hill Area Committee, said that the government of state has taken up a large numbers of development programmes in the last 14 years. He cited infrastructure development and ongoing work for railway connection to prove his point.

At the function, MLA of Tamenglong Zamhenglung Panmei, and Secretary of MSCP Jotin Waikhom were also present.
