The Speaker instructed IFCD Engineers to start dredging and de-clogging the canals that run to the east of Chingamakha and Western side of Thongam Leikai.
The Speaker also inspected vulnerable sections of Imphal River bank at Thokchom Leikai, Chongtham Leikai, Sapam Leikai, Leishangthem Leikai, Thingujam Leikai and Waikhom Leikai.
He instructed PWD Engineers to repair the sunken portion of the road that runs to the West of Manipur College along Nambul River bank.
Speaking to media persons in the course of the inspection tour, the Speaker stated that his tour was aimed at surveying the areas of Singjamei which are prone to floods during rainy season.
Thokchom Leikai, Waikhom Leikai and Thongam Leikai are the three localities of Singjamei which are prone to floods at the slightest rainfall. Thongam Leikai is currently flooded because the canal that runs between Thongam Leikai and Chingamakha has been totally clogged.
IFCD Engineers have been asked to start de-clogging the canal on a war footing from tomorrow and the Engineers have assured to do the needful, Khemchand told reporters.
He also noted the vulnerable sections of Imphal River banks to work out a permanent solution.
Construction of a second retaining wall in addition to the existing one from Thokchom Leikai to Waikhom Leikai can permanently solve the flood problems at these places, asserted the Speaker.
He assured that he would lobby with the Ministry of DoNER to obtain funds required for construction of a second retaining wall along Imphal River bank.
The Speaker further instructed Engineers of the department concerned to start construction of the proposed retaining wall from October this year.
