COTA to launch fast unto death strike from today to demand pay parity

IMPHAL, Jan 18: The Council of Teachers’ Association (COTA) will launch fast unto death strike from tomorrow following the failure of the state government to implement the 6th central revised pay in toto for the government school teachers of the state.
Speaking to mediapersons today at TG Higher Secondary School, the convenor of COTA, S. Gunamani stated that the government teachers of the state have been urging the state government to implement the 6th revised pay as per the memorandum of understanding signed between the state government and JAC of AMGEO and AMTUC along with COTA. However, the state government has failed to implement the revised pay till now despite of so many memorandums submitted to the concerned authority.
The teachers have even resorted to various forms of strike including cease-work strike, but still the government remains as a silent spectator. Their patience and endurance have crossed the limit and so they have decided to resort to fast unto death strike as the last option, he stated.
Gunamani said that the teachers will even sacrifice their lives if the state government fails to implement the 6th revised pay as soon as possible.
For the first phase of the strike, 50 teachers will go on the fast unto death strike from tomorrow at Keishampat Junction near Modhu Girls’ School.
