Wangjing locals allege MLA fired indiscriminately upon public

IMPHAL, October 1: Alleging that local MLA of Wangjing Tentha M Hemanta fired gunshots at  locals injuring many of them, when they rushed towards the MLA on seeing him in the locality to inquire about the under construction Community hall in the locality, a Joint Action Committee, that has been boycotting the MLA since before against the incompletion of the various projects taken up in the area under the MLA local area development fund has demanded from the government to take legal actions against the MLA.

The JAC in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister and signed by its convenor Th Rojen Singh, has stated that, this morning at 8am, locals of Wangjing Lamding and adjoining areas who were in the market area for their personal businesses on seeing MLA Hemanta rushed towards him to ask about the completion of the community hall.

However, the MLA who had come to attend a meeting at the residence of L Bijen without any provocation and any reasonable response to the queries of the locals started firing towards the locals, which was further followed by indiscriminate firing by his security personnel injuring four persons.

It has as such requested the Chief Minister to acknowledge and to take up immediate necessary action against the MLA, who attempted to kill the innocent people of his own constituency.

It has further demanded to have an appropriate inquiry under the supervision of the CBI.

Meanwhile, another source from the actual spot of the incident has stated that MLA Hemanta had been boycotted since some time back regarding incompletion of the various projects undertaken in the constituency.

The source also added that, this morning at around 8am, when the locals saw the MLA coming into the area to attend a meeting at the residence of L Bijen, started pelting stones at him, and in retaliation and in order to defend himself from the onslaught of the angered locals, the MLA had blank fired several rounds.

However, being unable to control the mob with the blank firing, the MLA himself informed Thoubal police to help him.

Thoubal police personnel on arrival started firing teargases and used baton charge to control the mob, the source added.

Contrary to the allegation made by the locals, the source further mentioned that during the process of controlling the mob by the police some locals may have been injured; however there was no instance when the MLA had turned his gun towards the locals, the source added.
