IED attacks continue

IMPHAL, September 24: IED explosions continue in the state today as a powerful remote controlled IED was triggered off at Khuningthek Canal under Yairipok Police station, Imphal East.

However, there were no casualties during the explosion.

Sources said the explosion which created a crater three feet deep and five feet diameter on the sideways of the IVR was triggered off as a team of Yairipok police in two vehicles was passing the area.

The explosion occurred this morning around 10:30am when the police team was coming towards Yairipok Yambem from Maringthel.

The IED exploded just as the second police vehicle passed the canal.

Local farmers told media persons that they were working in the nearby paddy fields when the IED exploded.

They said they saw the two police vehicles passing the IVR. Soon after a loud explosion was heard, they continued.

On hearing the loud explosion, they saw the police jumping out of their vehicles and firing a few shots and gathered all the farmers who were at the fields at the time.

The police further questioned the farmers and after verifying their identities, freed them all.
