IMPHAL March 14: Irom Chanu Sharmila was released from judicial remand at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences Security Ward around 5.05pm after completing her one year term in judicial remand under the FIR number 60(3) 2013 for attempt to suicide under section 309 in the Porompat Police Station, .

She was warmly received on her release by the volunteers and leaders of the Sharmila Kanba Lup and other well-wishers.

Sharmila was handed over to the members of the Sharmila Kanba Lup by the jail authorities in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences Security Ward where she has been kept by jail authorities under medical observation

Soon after her release, she was taken back to the Sharmila Kanba Lup Sanglen by the leaders and members of the SAKAL where she continued her fast unto death agitation demanding the repeal of Armed force Special Power Act.

After reaching the Sanglen, Sharmila stated that she will continue her fasting until the act is repealed.

Before her release from the judicial custody, Sharmila while speaking to the media informed that on 4 February Chief Minister O Ibobi visited her room inside the Security ward.

During the CM’s visit and her subsequent interaction with the former, he had appealed to her to stop her struggle for the repeal of AFSPA and appealed to join hands with him for repealing AFSPA from the state.

The CM also said that the State government was trying for repeal of AFSPA totally and the state government had also lifted AFSPA out from the seven assembly segment despite strong objections from the centre. It was possible only because of my epic struggle for the repeal of AFSPA and if we join hands, there was a hope of success, she added.

She continued that when Mahatama Gandhi staged protests during his non-violent movement the whole country supported him in his struggle to make it a grand success but it was very unfortunate that her struggle was similar to Mahatma Gandhi as it was for human rights and right to life for all the sections of peoples.

Lamenting the lack of support from the people in her struggle, she examined that it might be the main reason why the government is not taking her struggle seriously.

She further stated that if the public stand together as one force than nothing can stop them.
