Poll disturbance slur against NSCN (IM)

KANGPOKPI, April 9: Denizens of 46-Saikul (ST), 50-Kangpokpi(GEN) and 51-Saitu(ST) Assembly Constituency exercised their adult franchise peacefully for the II-Outer Manipur PC today.

Voting began at 7 am and continued till 4 pm in the evening without any reports of disturbances in all the four Polling Stations of Kangpokpi.

A total of number 713 voters out of 808 voters including 356 male voters and 357 female voters exercised their vote at Polling Station No.50/1 Kangpokpi(A) while 700 voters out of 776 voters including 352(Male) and 348(Female) voted at Polling Station No.50/2 Kangpokpi(A)-Lhangnom Village.

At Polling Station No.50/3-Kangpokpi(B) a total of 888 voters including 427(Male) and 461(Female) out of 1119 votes exercised their vote while 861 voters including 400(Male) and 461(Female) out of 991 voters voted at Polling Station No. 50/4-Kangpokpi(C)- Haijang, Laikot and West Haipi.

Altogether a total number of 3169 out of 3694 voters at the four Polling Station in Kangpokpi voted today.

A total of 1535 male voters and 1621 female voters out of a total of 1781 male voters and 1913 female voters voted at the four Polling Station in Kangpokpi respectively.

In the meantime, cadres of Kuki National Front(KNF), a SoO signatory under UPF today exercised their vote for the first time in MP Election in their designated camp Ebenezer at Natheljang.

Out of 296 cadres only 42 cadres were allowed to cast their vote in Postal Ballot paper.

This is the first time I have exercised my vote in the MP election in the designated camp. I feel very much privilege and thanks to the ECI for giving us this opportunity. I feel today that I am a full-fledged Indian now, said a cadre of KNF after casting his vote in the camp.

A well-placed source informed that suspected NSCN-IM underground outfit created unfriendly environment at Thonglang Akutpa Polling Station under Tadubi AC while adding that one Polling Agent was also slapped and the Polling personnel threatened which compeled them to run away from the Polling Station.

Details could not be confirmed yet till the filling of this report.

Another reliable source also informed that NPF supporters at 51/2-Mayangkhang Khunou Polling Station, 51/4-Tumuyon Khullen Polling Station and 51/5-Tumuyon Khullen, Kananga Polling Station captured the polling booth which compelled the BJP candidate Prof.Gangmumei Kamei to render a complaint at ADC Kangpokpi.

Interestingly, the Presiding Officer and Polling Agents of all the party certified that the poll has been conducted smoothly and accordingly submitted the EVMs at ADC, Kangpokpi.

According to reports of the Polling officials of the three respective Polling Stations a total of 1043 voters out of 1069 voters cast their votes at 51/2-Mayangkhang Khunou PS and a total of 717 voters out of 865 voters voted at 51/4-Tumuyon Khullen PS while a total of 485 voters out of 560 at 50/5-Tumuyon Khullen Kajanga PS exercised their vote.

The Indian National Congress (INC) also rendered a complaint to the Secretary, ECI today.

The complaint letter for declaring Repoll at ten Polling Station under 45-Chingai(ST) AC and at five Polling Station under 42-Tengnoupal(ST) AC.

The letter signed by Thangjakam Misao, Election Agent of the Congress Candidate for Outer Manipur PC said that as per the information reported by the Polling Agent of the INC, the Polling Agent of INC were not allowed to sit in the Polling Booth at 45/46-Ringai(A); 46/47-Ringai(B); 46/48-Ringai Ramhon; 46/51-Tuinem(A-I); 46/52-Tuinem(A-II); 46/53-Tuinem(B); 46/54-Tuinem(C); 46/55-Sararakhang; 46/33-Kachai(A) and 46/34-Kachai(B) Polling Station under Chingai (ST) AC and at 42/13-Machi(A); 42/14-Machine(B); 42/37-Leibi; 42/4-Launching Minou as well as 42/3-Heinou Makhong Polling Station under 42-Tengnoupal (ST) AC respectively.

The complaint letter further said that only Polling Agents of NPF were allowed to sit inside the Polling Booth and captured the booth totally by the NPF in cahoots with the NSCN-IM which is in violation of Election Model Code of Conduct and election related norms.

A copy of the complaint letter has been forwarded to CEO, Manipur and R.O/DC/DEO-TBL for II-Outer Manipur PC.
