Narayana Super-specialty Hospital launches ‘SHAPE’ – the Obesity & Metabolic Clinic

It said, ‘SHAPE – The obesity and metabolic clinic’ at Narayana Super-specialty Hospital addresses the facts, causes, health risks and the treatment options for Obesity. The dedicated clinic for assessment of obese patients opting for weight-loss surgery is operational Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shape Clinic is led by experienced laparoscopic surgeons, supported by a team of doctors from other specialties to ensure multidisciplinary approach and effective treatment outcomes. This implies the services of the bariatric surgeon are clubbed with other multi-disciplinary services such as Psychiatry, General Medicine, Plastic Surgery, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Diet & Nutrition as well as Physiotherapy, said the press release.

Commenting on the launch of Shape Clinic, Deepak Venugopalan, Zonal Director (East) – Narayana Health said, “Usually people opting for this type of surgery had to travel to other cities outside the state of Assam. Now, with the services of ‘Shape Clinic’ offered at our hospital in Guwahati, people need not travel long distances and can avail of counseling, assessment and treatment under specialist doctors including those from our unit in Kolkata”.

It said, Narayana Health has launched an awareness campaign about obesity, metabolic diseases and weight-loss surgery through the launch of this dedicated clinic. Commenting on this, Deepak Venugopalan said, “We have seen that there is a rise in the number of people showing interest in weight loss surgery as an effective means to a healthier life. Keeping the same in perspective, we are reaching out through our other centers in Eastern India to ensure that this health service is available to those beyond the purview of only this city”.
