Children rescued

IMPHAL, Apr 16: A team of Sekmai police station led by the OC today rescued 17 children who were being taken out of the State on the promise of providing jobs at a private company in Tamil Nadu.

The children were later handed over to the Child Welfare Committee Thoubal.

Speaking to this reporter, CWC Thoubal chairperson Kh Jitendra said that around 3pm today, the Sekmai Police team caught two women on a bus bound for Guwahati along with the 17 children.

The two women have been identified as Atom Inao Devi of Langmeidong and Yaikhom Sandhyarani from Pangaltabi.

The children who are all in the age group of 16-17 years are from Wapokpi and Pangaltabi under Sugunu PS.

The Sekmai PS handed over the children to the CWC Thoubal around 6pm.

It is also learnt that the children will be handed over the concerned JJ Board of the concerned PS.
