ATDUM asks for new disabilities official

IMPHAL, Sep 12: The All Tribal Disabled Union, Manipur while claiming that the asst commissioner, (Disabilities) lacks the knowledge and practical experience in the disabilities field has appealed to the state government to appoint an asst commissioner (Disabilities) who is more qualified and with practical experience in the matter of rehabilitation.

A release of the union has cited that the present asst commissioner (Disabilities) has failed to furnish relevant documents regarding two RTI applications which the president of the union had sought from the director Social Welfare department on the application form and OPD form for obtaining disability certificates of 15 persons and the list of selected beneficiaries of economic and financial assistance for persons with disabilities of Chandel, Senapati, Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Churachandpur district during the year 2006 to 2010.

It has further stated that the director Social Welfare had forwarded the application to the asst commissioner (Disabilities) who has failed to furnish the relevant documents within the thirty days mentioned in the RTI Act.

The union has further finished the necessary preparation to file PIL before the High Court against the state government for neglecting to appoint full time commissioner (Disabilities) for the welfare of the persons with disabilities in the state, added the release.

Unexploded shell found

IMPHAL Sep 12: An unexploded shell was discovered today morning at Sagolband Bijoygovinda and the residents suspecting the shell may still be active informed the police. The roadside was cordoned off from traffic when the bomb squad inspected and removed the shell to a safe site for disposal. The shell was conical in shape and is beleived to have been dropped during the second World War and remained unexpolded since.
