One dead, four hurt in accident involving AR water tanker

IMPHAL, Feb 10: Police today picked up a water tanker belonging to the 28 Assam Rifles, Lilong Post for its alleged involvement in an accident resulting in the death of a woman and the injury of four others traveling
A water tanker of the 28 Assam Rifles, Lilong Post today morning at around 9:30 am collided with an auto rickshaw resulting in the death of one woman and injury of four others all occupants of the ill-fated passenger 3-wheeler.
The incident happened today near the 28 AR Lilong Post gate. The dead woman has been identified as Saheeda Bibi, 50, w/o Md Ishak Ali of Sangaiyumpham, Thoubal.
According to family members, the party was coming from Sangaiyumpham, Thoubal district and was traveling upto the 7th MR battalion, Khabeishoi to discuss a marriage ceremony of relative.
According to eye witnesses the water tanker (ML 05 C 2500) while trying to overtake the 3-wheeler struck it from behind on which one of the lady passenger fell from the auto rickshaw and was overrun by the speeding water tanker. The water tanker overran the woman on her head resulting to the crushing of the victim’s head.
The other four were injured due to the impact of the water tanker hitting their vehicle.
Witnesses further maintained that the water tanker without stopping after the accident fled inside the AR post.
Meanwhile angered local residents stopped traffic along the NH 39 Imphal Moreh at the spot of the accident from 10 am till 12 pm today.
Witness further maintained that the AR post decline to accept that it was their tanker which had struck down the 3-wheeler and killed two women occupants even after the arrival of police and eyewitnesses pointing towards them as the culprits.
Police found blood stained tyre tracks winding into their post which further led to the tanker which was already washed by the AR to hide any evidence, however police found blood stains and pieces of flesh on the inside treads of the tyres of the tanker.
The injured persons have been identified as Md Ishak Ali (wife killed in the accident), 60, Md Maniruddin, 45 Md Najiruddin, 50 and Raheena Bibi, 38, w/o Md Mahibu. Md Ishak Ali and Md Maniruddin are currently admitted to RIMS while Najiruddin is admitted to JNIMS.
Family members further claimed that the negligence of the driver of the AR tanker led to the accident and the death of the two women and has further demanded action against the culprit.
