Upa-pradhan held for alleged links with militants 4 militant cadres arrested by security forces

IMPHAL, April 8: At least three militant cadres including external affair secretary of UNPC have been arrested by security forces in separate counter insurgency operations launched in different part of the state.

In the first incident a combined team of the Imphal West district police commandos, 28 AR and 116 BSF arrested two active members of the proscribed PREPAK (P1) which included a upa-pradhan involved in various anti social activities.

A press conference was held in this connection at the commando complex, North AOC. Briefing media persons the additional SP Imphal West, S. Ibomcba said that the individual were arrested from Singjamei Chirom Leikai.

The arrested person were parade before the media person at the office of DSP Imphal West S Ibomcha and arrested persons were identified as Khaidem Ibomcha alias RK alias Rohid, 38, son of Kh Chaoba of Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai an Upa Pradhan of Khurai Laishram Leikai Gram Panchayat Ward No. 6, Leihaorungbam Robinchandra, 38, son of L Kumar of Khurai Puthiba Leikai Lamlong Bazar.

The police officer further revealed that of the two one is presently the Upa Pradhan of Khurai Laishram Leikai Gram Panchayat.

On spot verification they disclosed that they joined the outfit through one S/S Commander Chaoba alias Pakhangba since the last six months and working under his command.The said persons were arrested while travelling on a Honda Activa bearing registration No. MN01/8981 and frisking and checking was conducted on them by the combined security team yesterday.

They were assigned to serve demand letters to various government officers, departments and businessmen and also in transportation of arms and ammunitions. One Chinese made hand grenade with 2 detonator, two I-card and a mobile handset were seized from the possession of the Upa Pradhan and one Chinese hand grenade, one I-card, one mobile handset were seized from the possession of Rohinchandra, said the police sources.

The arrest is evident that elected representatives are involved in Illegal and anit social activities said S. Ibomcha, Additional SP. He also further warned that the security forces will continue it operation to maintain law and order.

A statement released by the PRO IGAR (S), said that troops of 15 Assam Rifles of 9 sector under HQ IGAR (S) apprehended one cadre of the proscribe UNLF militant during an operation launched in Wangkhem bazaar yesterday around 3:30 pm.

The individual is identified as one Huidrom Ajit Singh, 28, s/o Huidrom Kesho Singh of Yairipok Wangkhem. He has been handed over to Yairipok police station.

In yet another incident, troops of 12 AR of 10 sector under HQ IGAR (S) have arrested two cadres of UNPC in the wee hour today around 2 am while conducting an operation in the general area of Kanggum.

The arrested individuals have been identified as one External Affair secretary of the UNPC, Ningam alias Awungassi Ricky, 35, s/o Wugkhaling of Nungbi Khullen village and S/S Pvt. Wungnaoshang, 33, s/o Nganingmi of Bunpun village.
