Arrested UG sympathizer turns out to be AR sepoy: police

IMPHAL, November 21: Security forces have apprehended three cadres belonging to different underground organizations in the past two days during counter insurgency operations conducted in different parts of the state.

According to an official release issued by the  SP Imphal west, a team of the district police commandos apprehended an active sympathizers of the underground group Kuki Revolutionary Force (KRF) identified as Sehminlal Singson, 24, s/o Satlal Singson of  Keithelmanbi military colony from New Checkon bazaar this morning around 8.10 am. During preliminary verification, the arrested person identified himself as a sepoy of the 23 Assam Rifles, the release informed.

The official released further mentioned that, during further interrogation he revealed that he is working under the command of s/s finanance secretary LN Kuki of KRF and that he was involved in extortion of huge amount of money from shopkeepers located at New Checkon area for party fund.

The released also mentioned that one ID card of the Assam Rifles, two ATM cards of SBI, one driving licence, one demand letter signed by LN Kuki of KRF for a sum of Rs 5000 for serving to a grocery shop in New Checkon and Rs.20 in cash were recovered and seized from his possession by the police.

In yet another incident the troop of 15 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under the HQ IGAR (South) apprehended one cadre of rthe underground KYKL identified as Puyam Amu alias Bisesor, 28, s/o P Homen Singh of  Langathel Heibungpokpi from his locality during search operation this early morning.

According to a release of the PRO IGAR (S), one 9mm pistol was recovered from his possession.

The official release further mentioned that, the troop of 17 Assam Rifles of 10 sector under IGAR (South) during their operation conducted at Kachai were able to seize 500 kgs of Ganjas this morning from the possession of one AH Peter, 48 s/o late Maringthuk of Leisham, Sondal village, Ukhrul district.

Meanwhile, troops of 6/8 Gorkha Rifles and 5/9 Gorkha Rifles of Logtak Brigade under Red Shield Division in a joint operation apprehended one terrorist of KYKL from Upokpi Khunau, Bishnupur today.

The individual revealed his identity as s/s lance corporal Salam Eboya alias Zalim, 37, s/o Salam Khumai, resident of Upokpi Khunau. He further revealed that he was trained in the year 1993 at a KYKL camp in Chandel, Phiram in batch No 07. He was involved in weapon transportation, tax collection and extortion in Moirang and Bishnupur areas on behalf of the banned terrorist outfit. The cadre was handed over to Bishnupur Police Station, stated an army press release.
