IMPHAL, May 13: FC Imphal beat KVFA by 2-1 in the today’s final match of the 14th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung.
FC Imphal got off to the best possible start as they took the lead after only nine minutes of the match by Bale Takhel off a cross by Krishna but soon it was equalized by Samson Tangkhul (KVFA) in the next minute through a long range shoot of 30 yards distance and levelled it to 1-1. Just ahead of the half time, a powerful header by L Neisothang (FC Imphal) found the net and again took the lead by 2-1. In the remaining part of the match both the teams were not able to score any goals.
As winners, FC Imphal went home with a giant trophy and a cash prize of Rs 25,000 while KVFA took home a consolation price of Rs 15,000 for finishing as runners-up.
Other prize winner includes, Bale Takhel of FC Imphal, 1st goal Final Match with cash prize Rs 1000, Th Krishna, Top Scorer (6 goals) with cash prize Rs 1000, A Priyobrata (KAVA), Best Goal Keeper with cash prize Rs 2000, Ch Nabachandra (FC Imphal), Best Defender with cash prize Rs 1000, L Surchandra (FC Imphal), Best Player with cash prize Rs 1000 and SIRTI (Chandel), Fair Play Trophy.
Kh Joykishan, MLA Thangmeiband A/C donated Rs 20,000 and O Lukhoi, MLA Wangoi A/C donated Rs 10,000, who were present as the chief guest and president respectively.
