Seized liquor destroyed

IMPHAL, June 19: Around Rs Two lakhs worth of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and beer were destroyed this evening at the Lamphelpat Excise department complex.

The IMFL and beer which were seized by a team of Imphal West police led by its SP Jayenta were handed over to the excise department yesterday.

The bottles include 156 bottles of IMFL of several brands and 492 bottles of beer, 16 can beers, 141 bottles of half litre whiskey, 73 bottles of quarter whiskey.

The department has further collected a sum of Rs 20000 as fine from the two salespersons who were arrested along with the seized liquor bottles.

The department had also collected Rs 25900 as fine from 30 different cases in the month of May, said the department Asst Commissioner, K Joykumar.

The destroying of the IMFL bottles was held in the presence of SDPO, Lamphel H Balaram and Imphal City OC, Rk Tejbir.

It may be mention that a team of Imphal West police led by its SP Jayenta had raided a shop selling illegal Indian made Foreign Liquor from an alley of MG Avenue, Thangal Bazar and recovered around Rs two lakhs worth of IMFL and beer.

Two salespersons identified as Rajesh Kumar, 41 son of Ramgatsa and Rajukumar, 28 son of Ram Prisa of Bihar were also arrested during the raid.
