IMPHAL, June 19: The Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) have begun to bar unloading of goods at the two FCI godowns at Sangaiprou and Koirengei here from Tuesday.

The TDC had on June 12 announced that it would stop all transporters from unloading their goods at the two godowns.

The move has been taken up by TDC against the notification issued by FCI General Secretary at Dimapur on June 9 last. According to the notification, 80 per cent of FCI goods from outside the state should be transported along the Imphal-Dimapur road (NH-39) while 20 per cent through the Imphal-Jiribam road (NH-37).

On the other hand, the TDC has been demanding to revoke the notification citing problems being faced along the National Highway-39. TDC had also warned that it would take up a stir to bar all transporters from unloading their goods at the two FCI godowns with effect from June 16.

The All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor workers Union, and United Clubs National Highway had also announced that they would support the agitation launched by TDC on June 15 last.
