Woman found dead in Iril River

IMPHAL, June 30: A 36-year-old woman who was reportedly fell into the Iril River yesterday was found dead this morning.

Mutum Kunjeshwori, wife of Sanasam Mohen, a resident of Irilbung Machahal Thongkhong in Imphal East was found dead in the Iril River around 8 am by some local residents who were fishing.

Her parental home is in Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak, Imphal West.

Kunjeshwori had been pregnant for about eight months and that she was also a mother of two. She had gone missing last night around 7 pm but her pair of sandals was reportedly found on the bank of the river by her husband’s family while searching her.

The body was found in the Iramsiphai section of the Iril River under Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West around 8 am, police said.

The eight month-old baby in her womb turned out be a male when her body conducted autopsy at RIMS mortuary.

However, both the bodies are now lying in the mortuary as a controversy behind the death emerged between her parental family and the husband’s family.

Meanwhile in a unrelated incident, a 32-year-old man was killed when the autorickshaw in which he was traveling collided with a speeding truck near Maharabi hillock under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West Saturday.

The victim is identified as Oinam Ibohal, son of Ibocha, a resident of Moirang Tronglaobi, Bishnupur district He was rushed to the hospital but died on the way.

The body has been deposited to RIMS mortuary and that a case regarding the road mishap has also been registered with Sekmai Police Station.

Police sources said the family has refused to claim the body as there is a disagreement between the owner of the vehicle involved in the mishap and the family.
