Assam Molestation: Guwahati: NCW Chairperson to visit Guwahati tomorrow to probe molestation case

Assam Chief Minister also termed the role of the journalist as unethical. All India Mahila Congress urged the Chief Minister to take action against the Editor In Chief for tweeting against women.

The Chairperson of National Commission for Women Mamta Sharma will visit Guwahati tomorrow to investigate the case of molestation of a girl on last Monday (9th July) night. She will meet Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and the victim girl. Talking to newsmen in Guwahati this evening, Gogoi revealed this. The Chief Minster expressed dissatisfaction over a section of media reports that tarnished the image of the state.

Terming the incident as most condemnable, the Chief Minster assured that all the culprits will be brought to book. So far 12 people were arrested but the main culprit is still absconding.Gogoi also assured the victim and assured all possible help. A special Task Force has been formed to look into the matter. Assam government also instructed the CID to supervise the investigation and also to submit day to -day report.

Additional Chief Secretary Mrs.Amliy Choudhury has begun her investigation as instructed by the Chief Minister. Meanwhile, the Editor-In -Chief of a local TV channel has resigned today. He said that there might be pressure on the channel authority to sack him . The channel aired the footage of the molestation on 9th July. Assam Police yesterday questioned a journalist of the same channel for his alleged involvement in the case.
