Universal Children`s Day celebrated

IMPHAL, November 20: The CCEF celebrated Universal Children’s Day in its centenary Hall at Wangjing on November 20, 2013 as a part of worldwide celebration of children on this Day.

UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) also promotes and coordinates this special day, which also works towards improving children’s welfare.

The main theme of today’s celebration was “Stop violence against children”.

The message was widely accepted by the general public particularly the parents/guardians who attended the celebration.

It was on this day that ‘Declaration of the rights of the children’ was adopted by UN General Assembly in 1959 and later in 1989.

Addressing the function, L Jelshyam Singh, the founder of the CCEF said the role of both parents and teachers are important to create a learning atmosphere for these small children.

He further said that CCEF, one of the premier play group institutions located at the heart of Wangjing town, 28 km away from the capital city along the Indo Myanmar Road is committed to nurturing each child’s spirituality, academic, cultural and personal development.

By celebrating all their achievements, we enable them to recognize a sense of worth in themselves and their full potential, he said.

CCEF believes in emotional integrity and development of individual members in the society, he said.

Parents together with committed volunteers of CCEF can make a difference of our children to achieve and build a meaningful citizen in the state, he continued.

M SucilKumar, secy CDA-C, mentioned the ill-effects of corporal punishment in the schools and other institutes working in the field of children.  

The ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, has recently written to all state governments to abolish the practice of corporal punishment in all educational institutions.

It is noteworthy that they have made a connection between corporal punishment and children dropping-out of school, he said before pointing out that it is an important admission.

The function was presided by L Maimu Singh, ex councillor, Wangjing Lamding Nagar Panchayat; with Soibam Birahai Singh, Associate Professor, YK College as chief guest, Moirangthem Ajit Kumar Singh, Principal, Tenths Model High School and Moirangthem Sucil Kumar Singh, secretary, Centre for Development Activities, Wangjing as guests of Honour.

The major events of the celebration included various performances by the children and giving away of gifts to the children.

Jelshyam Singh extended his heartfelt welcome and thanks to Pazy Cooperacion spain for participating in promotion of this celebration, even though they could not be physically present at the celebration.

PazyCorperacion is one of the International organizations working for peace and development and promoting school children.

They have sent some 50 packets of items (gifts) for the children)

He also extended his thanks to Principal, Tentha Model School for contributing to the celebration through sending 50 nos of exercise books and pencils for the children.
