MDU drama festival from March 21

IMPHAL, March 14: A five-day festival of traditional plays of the Manipur Dramatic Union will be held from March 21 to 25, 2014 at its hall at Yaiskul Police Lane.

In this regard, a press meet was held on Saturday at the Manipur Dramatic Union hall.

During the press meet, organising secretary member S Sharatchandra said that the traditional play festival is being organised in connection with the foundation day of the theatre.

Announcing the plays to be staged, he said ‘Ramer Sumati’ written by Saratchandra Chattopadhay, and translated into Manipuri by Khomdram Dhanachandra and directed by Hijam Shyam Singh will be staged on March 21 while ‘Tonu Laijinglembi’ written by Sarangthem Bormani and directed by B Jugolchandra on March 22.

‘Krishna Avatar’ written by Ningthoujam Tombi Singh and directed by Thokchom Tangkeshwas Singh will be staged on March 23; ‘Khongjomnubi’ written by Dinamani Haoba and directed by Hijam Shyam Singh will be staged on March 24 and ‘Kamala’ written by Vijay Tendulkar, which is translated into Manipuri by Lamabam Gojendra and directed by Lamabam Gojendra will be presented on March 25.

Saratchandra further said that the formal inaugural function will be organised on March 21 while its closing function will be held on March 25 at 3 pm and added that all the plays will be staged by MDU artists.
