BB Sharma receives Devarshi Narda Journalist Award

IMPHAL, May 18: The Vishwa Samvad Kendra, Manipur has on Sunday organised the 2nd Devarshi Narda Journalist Award 2014 presentation at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal.

The function was attended by Akhil Bharatiya Saha Prachar Pramukh (Media) J Nanda Kumar as the chief guest and Vishwa Samvad Kendra, Manipur, Th Madhye Singh as president.

During the function, the award for the journalist of the year was presented to retired jt director (News), AIR, Imphal, Brahmacharimayum Biramangal Sharma well-known as BB Sharma.

Delivering the keynote address, S Kulachandra Singh said that the mighty resurgence through which the country is currently passing through makes it necessary that the function of media centre must go beyond the mere act of spreading information.

He also added that according to Swami Vivekananda, information running riot in the brain is not knowledge. And that the aim of Vishwa Samvad Kendra is not to remain just a clearing house of information but to function as a source of knowledge.

Nanda Kumar during the function elaborated on the qualities of a reporter who according to him should have and understanding of the situation and incident, capacity to analyse the situation, collecting supportive facts and evidence, using appropriate words and having a clear concept while drafting a story, and should be aware of the impact of his or her stories.

Brahmacharaimayum Biranmangal Sharma, explaining on ‘Narda’ said it means giving knowledge, and he added that journalist should be able to give the latest information and knowledge which makes news and knowledge to people
