IMPHAL, January 9: Candidates whose applications for the posts of Food Safety Officers were rejected by the Manipur Public Service Commission despite possessing `recognised qualification notified by the Union government` have demanded for the postponement of the examination for the same posts due on January 11 or either to allow them to appear in the examination.
Speaking to media person at a press conference at the Manipur Press Club today, Mutum Bhupendro, representative of the rejected candidates, said MPSC have rejected the applications of 100 candidates who learned about their applications having been rejected despite possessing `recognised qualification notified by the Union government` on December 31 when they visited the MPSC office to collect their admit cards under the condition that they don`™t meet the required educational qualifications.
However, it was notified twice on October 30 and November 29 last year that the minimum educational qualification for the posts was `a degree in food technology or a degree in diary technology or bio- technology or oil- technology or agriculture science or bio-chemistry or micro biology or master in chemistry or a degree in medicine from recognised university or any other equivalent or recognised qualification notified by Central Government`.
He further said that the authorities should explain as to their applications were rejected in spite of the MPSC notifications including the `recognised qualification notified by the Union government` among the eligible qualifications.
The concerned MPSC authorities have been approached but they couldn`™t give an answer. Instead they asked us to consult officials in the secretariat on the issue but the Secretariat officials also told us to consult the MPSC office, he said.
The authorities have only created confusion among the 100 students and instead of being able to provide appropriate answers they are also confused about this issue, he stressed.
He also added that a notification from the Secretariat on January 7 concerning the ineligible qualifications is reportedly being discussed by the Union Government on January 8 but any information or notification from the Union government is yet to be issued.
