Police arrest man who planted bomb at Temporary Market

IMPHAL, March 24: Police have arrested a man who allegedly planted the bomb which exploded at Khwairamband Keithel Temporary Market on March 11 killing three persons and injuring 23 persons.

A press release of PRO, Police Department said a team of Imphal West District Police Commando on March 22 arrested the man who had kept IED at Murgi Bazaar Tea stall inside Temporary Market, Imphal on March 11, killing three persons and injuring 23 persons.

Police release identified the arrested person as one Md Najir Khan alias Md Najib Khan, 36, son of (L) Md Abdul Helim of Phoubakchao Heibung Leirak Manung.

Investigation reveals that the IED was handed over to him by one unknown person who was sent by one s/s chairman of URF (Lalheiba faction) identified as Khwairakpam Gopendro alias Brojen alias Khelen alais alias Lalheiba of Keirenphabi Mamang Leikai, Bishnupur District, the release said.

Further investigation of the case is going on, it added.
