IMPHAL, December 12: The Manipur Central Jail authority has submitted a written appeal to the Metropolitan Magistrate, Patiala House Court Complex extend the date of physical appearance for Irom Chanu Sharmila due to lack of medical certificate.
Sharmila was supposed to make her last appearance before the court on December 15 and 16 in connection with case no 476/02/2012 FIR No 222/2006 Parliament Street Police Station.
According to a reliable source, the Manipur Central Jail authority has not yet received the Medical Fitness Certificate for Sharmila from the State Health Services.
Following in the court directive regarding the appearance of the anti-AFSPA activist, the Manipur Central Jail authorities had started making the necessary preparations well in time, according to the source.
The first preparation for Sharmila’s physical appearance in the Delhi court is for the State Health Services, Manipur to issue a Medical Fitness Certificate approving that she can be taken to and fro to Delhi by flight and that she can stay there for the required number of days.
On receiving the certificate, the Home department is to seek further approval from the Civil Aviation Ministry and then apply for financial sanction required from the Finance department, according to the source.
However, for the December 15 and 16 court appearances, the State Health Services, Manipur has not issued any Medical Fitness Certificate till December 12, and as such the court has already been appealed to extend the date for the appearance, according to the source.

This part of the policy of the Manipur Government to keep Sharmila in extended periods of isolation backed by its police and their NGO fronts. It is hardly necessary any more since the Defence has already rested and have nothing positive to add either for Sharmila or for the repeal of the AFSPA the real reason for this prosecution against her.
