IMPHAL, Jan 12: The All Manipur Working Journalists has submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister requesting “necessary action against M Dujon for attempted murder of four journalists on the night of January 11.”

According to the memorandum, the AMWJU and the editors of the State are seriously concerned at the extreme criminal action of Meisnam Dujon who attempted to kill four journalists at Keishamthong on January 11 around 9:30 pm.

The union has also demanded action against the three policemen who stood and watched the scribes beaten and refused to arrest the culprit.

It said Dujon using a bamboo pole attacked four scribes namely A Jiten Singh of Sangai Express, Sukham Nanda of Peoples’ Chronicle, RK Bullurah of Poknapham and L Jashubanta who is the caretaker of Manipur Press Club without any provocation while the scribes were standing together at Keishamthong area.

What is a matter of great concern is that Dujon carried out the attack on the scribes in front of the three police men who were on duty at that time.

The violent attack left Jiten seriously injured with four broken teeth, while the other three sustained severe injuries on their head, chest and face, it said.

Jiten is undergoing treatment at the JNIMS, it said.

The union has also demanded exemplary punishment under the law of the land by timely submission of charge sheet by the police against the accused, adequate compensation for the four scribes especially A Jiten Singh and stringent action against the three policemen who stood and watched the scribes beaten and refused to arrest the culprit.
