IMPHAL, Jan 17: Member of Parliament Prahlad Singh Patel who is also the In-Charge of BJP Manipur State has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary O Nabakishore seeking immediate termination of the temporary market shed construction at Thangal Bazar. In the memorandum, the MP pointed out that the State government has no detailed plan about the construction and is ill-prepared to deal with the undesirable consequences.

The road is not widened enough to accommodate a street-market on the either side of Thangal Bazar road. The bazaar is carrying a legacy and traditional value since time immemorial, it said.

The memorandum mentioned that if the temporary market shed is established then it would block the free movement of vehicular traffic on either side of the place and put the people’s freedom and privacy at risk.

It would be an easy target place for the insurgent/militant groups to have sabotage like situation like grenade attack, IED explosion and indiscriminate firing as it would be so crowded and the damage from such untoward incidents will have deep impact and at the same time the culprits will have enough pockets to escape after the sabotage, the MP stated in the memorandum.

Taking serious note of the construction, the MP urged the State government to shift the temporary market to somewhere and immediately terminate the construction so as to keep the status quo of the area in order to secure/conserve the legacy and traditional value of the market.
