He further expressed his gratitude for the felicitation.

The chairperson said his main priority will be on the education, health and sports sectors and further sought cooperation from the public in encouraging good students from the minority sections.

Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation Abdullah Pathan lauded the government for appointing the new chairperson although the post had remained vacant for such a long time.

Pathan said among the minority communities of the State, the Muslim community is considered to be the most backward.

He said appointment of Dr Syed Burhanuddin will felicitate upliftment and development of the Muslim community.

The post of chairperson of the commission had been lying vacant since March 2015 and was only filled in the first month of 2016, he said.

Pathan also urged the government to appoint the members of the commission at the earliest so that the commission is made full-fledged at the earlist.
