IMPHAL, Mar 3: While condoling the death of school teacher Thongkhogin Haokip of Molnom village at his residence on February 29 morning, the Aimol Satu Village Authority has termed the allegation that the teacher was beaten at Aimol Satu on February 28 evening as baseless and unfounded.

A press release of the village authority contended that on February 29 around 7.45 am a large number of people from Molnoi area came to the village with arms and later brought the teacher’s dead body and ransacked the village in the presence of the State security forces.

The village authority has no idea whether the death of the school teacher who succumbed at his home was natural or was killed or tortured, it clarified.

If the death was unnatural then why post mortem is not done till date, it asked, suspecting that there is some fishy about it.

The village authority claimed that the mob burnt vehicles, ransacked houses besides killing many domestic animals.

What should be the intension of the mob had they been not intervened by the security. All the houses would have been set ablaze. The mob came with the intention of creating communal hatred, it stated.

Negating the allegation that the village authority was unwilling to cooperate in discussing the incident as baseless, it clarified that the village authority has nothing to do with the teacher’s death.

It appealed to the government to compensate the losses incurred on the fateful day as soon as possible and find means for the villagers to settle again in the village peacefully.

The village authority also expressed its heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family.
