THOUBAL, March 3: A vehicle was vandalized along the Imphal – Moreh stretch of the National Highway 102 on the first day of the indefinite bandh called by the Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the alleged killing of Ts Thongkhogin Haokip, an assistant teacher of Molnom Junior High School today.

Since early morning, a large number of bandh supporters including women folk blocked the Imphal – Moreh road at H Kotlenphai near Pallel, Senam and Chahmol Village by burning tyres and piling up logs.

For defying the bandh, some bandh supporters stopped a white colour Alto Car bearing Registration No WB 06 J5180 and vandalized its windshield in between Saivom and Tengnoupal Village.

However, vehicles carrying medical patients, religious and funeral related programs were exempted from the purview of the bandh after proper verification.

Shops and other economic establishments in and around Pallel Bazar shut down their shutters as a mark of endorsing the ongoing agitation of the JAC by the civil society organizations of Pallel.

And a team of Khunai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Thoubal District and Chingtam Nupi Apunba Lup (CHINA LUP) Pallel also took part in enforcing the indefinite bandh together with the other bandh supporters near Pallel.

It may be mentioned that the JAC against the murder of Ts. Thongkhogin Haokip, an assistant Hindi teacher of Molnom Junior High School had called an indefinite bandh along the Imphal – Moreh road since midnight of March 2 demanding arrest of the culprits involved in the alleged assault of the assistant teacher after which he subsequently succumbed.

Speaking at the sideline of the bandh, JAC convenor Mangboi Haokip said that the indefinite bandh was imposed in protest against the failure of State government to nab and book the culprits involved in the killing of Ts. Thongkhogin Haokip, an Assistant Hindi Teacher of Molnom Junior High School who succumbed after being brutally beaten up by the NSCN IM militants at Aimol Satu Village.

He further maintained that the JAC will intensify the agitations and impose a State-wide bandh with support from the general public and like-minded CSOs of the State, if the State government fail to nab and book the culprits at the earliest.
