Hailstorm plays spoilsport in Bishnupur, Thoubal in Manipur

BISHNUPUR, April 24: The heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorm that swept across the State last night inflicted severe damages to properties in many villages in Bishnupur district.

Roofing sheets of residential houses at Ishpok village, Nambol were left with holes by the hailstorm.

The impact of the hailstorm was so violent that a newly constructed house belonging to one RK Maipaksana, 50 son of Late Ingousana of Ishok Makha Leikai was totally shattered.

The upper portion of the house was found scattered around 1500 feet away. One room of a house belonging to Konjengbam Iboton, 60 son of Late Manao Meitei was carried away by the hailstorm.

Household items including a TV set and a godrej almirah were damaged.

A wooden-house belonging to Huidrom Ibochou, 37 son of Late Menjor Meitei of Ishok Makha Leikai also suffered damages in the heavy rainfall.

A poultry farm run by Longjam Shitaljit, 25 son of L Rajen of the same locality was devastated by the hailstorm. Another poultry farm own by Keisam Somorjit, 34 of Keinou Thong also suffered destruction.

Heavy violent thunder showers also damaged properties at Nongmaikhong under Kumbi Police Station, Nachou, Kwasiphai, Khoijuman and Toubul under Bishnupur PS and Oinam, Naorem, Maibam, Lourembam, Kakyai, Thiyam Khumpham, Wahengkhuman, Kha Sanjenbam under Nambol PS.

The heavy rainfall that struck the State also caused destructions in different parts of Thoubal district.

Many residential houses, properties, trees and electric poles at Khangabok Part I, II, III and Sangaiyumpham Cherapur were damaged.

Meanwhile, VESCO Khangabok, an apex body of clubs of the area has urged the government to provide immediate relief materials to all the families affected by the rainfall.

Around 40 residential houses at Athokpam Makha Leikai Ward No 7 and 300 acres of arable land at Chaprou Khangjing Khok Makhong also suffered damage.

Sensing the destruction, Ward Councillor Yumnam Premabati inspected the affected families.

The heavy rainfall also caused devastation to many houses at Wangjing SK Leikai.

Roofing sheets and other household properties at Langathel and Kairembikho village were also damaged.
