CM calls for concerted effort to eradicate terrorism

IMPHAL, May 21: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said only after eradicating terrorism, will peace prevail in the State.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the Anti-Terrorism Day 2016 held today at the Banquet Hall of 1st Manipur Rifles.

Addressing the gathering, Ibobi said the day is observed across the country commemorating the death anniversary of Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi who was killed in a bomb blast on May 21, 1991 at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.

Although, it is the 25th death anniversary of the former Prime Minister, the CM said, acts of terrorism are witnessed in every corner of the nation till today .

Manipur was once a peaceful State, but terrorism disrupted the peace, he observed.

Ibobi said terrorism not only hampers law and order situation but also creates huge obstacles in development works.

He further appealed to all concerned to stand together and fight terrorism.

Citing that the government alone cannot fight terrorism, the Chief Minister said all civil society organisations, NGOs and every section of the society should also contribute in the fight against terrorism and violence.

People should come together to curb terrorism, he added.

Ibobi further appealed to parents and guardians to guide their children and wards along the right track and help them become good citizens of the society.

Once they grow up to be responsible citizens they will fight all disruptive and negative forces threatening the society, he observed.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam presided over the function.

Today’s function was also attended by several State ministers, MLAs, top-brass government officials.

The observance also took a pledge to stand against terrorism and uphold peace in the society.
