JAC serves ultimatum to govt to find killers

IMPHAL, May 18: The Joint Action Committee against the brutal killing of Moirangmayum Chaoba Singh of Samurou Awang Leikai has today given an ultimatum of 24 hours to the state government which expires at 3 pm tomorrow to find the persons who had killed him.

In this connection the JAC submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Home Minister Gaikhangam at around 4 pm today evening. The memorandum drew the attention of the chief minister to take action against the culprit who is still untraced.

Proper action should be taken from the side of the government to deliver justice to the victim family and at the moment the JAC has decided not to perform the last rites of Chaoba until the demands are met.

The JAC volunteer could not meet the chief minister in person but submitted the memorandum. The JAC also submitted another copy of the same memorandum to the home minister.

It may be recalled that the lifeless body of Moirangmayum Chaoba Singh of Samurou Awang Leikai was found floating down the Nambul River in late afternoon of May 15, 2016. His death was suspected to be a homicide case and the body was believed to have been thrown into the river after committing the murder.

Family reported that he went missing from May 12 the day he left home. In this connection the residents of Samurou have taken up various forms of agitations including road blockade and sit-in-protest along Mayai Lambi road.
