IMPHAL, May 22: The inauguration of Khuman Indoor Stadium and JFI Judo Training Centre, Imphal will help in promoting sportsmanship spirit and bringing more laurels for the state, said President MOA, I Hemochandra who is also the Minister of Revenue, Law & Forest. He was speaking today during the inauguration of a stadium at Mayai Lambi Sports Academy at Mayang Imphal Thana IB Road.
Hemochandra who was the chief guest at the function lauded the Judo Federation of India for extending support in establishing the 6th JFI Judo training centre of the country in Manipur and said that local Judo players are much appreciated not only in the nation but also in the international arena.
President of Judo Federation of India Mukesh Kumar who was the guest of honour of the function said that JFI is happy enough to have a judo training centre in the state. He said that the Manipur has many national and international judokas like Brojeshori, Tombi, Anita, Th Kalpana who have bagged medals and awards for the nation and state.
He further mentioned that JFI has sort out a list of 25 Judokas from the state who will be given imported judo dresses, track suits, pocket allowance of Rs 1000 each and in addition will be provided world class coaching facility from time to time at the newly inaugurated training centre.
He also announced that next month a judo camp will be conducted at Haridwar and appealed to the players to join the camp to gain exposure and share experiences with judokas from other parts of the nation.
Minister of Education and Transport Dr Kh Ratan kumar Singh who was the functional president mentioned that the judo training centre was built under the initiative of state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi. He said that this exclusive judo training centre has become a reality due to the overwhelming support from JFI.
Eighty percent of judokas of the state are from Mayang Imphal area and they represented about 75 percent of those representing the state, Minister Ratan said adding that having a well-equipped Judo training facility at Mayang Imphal is very appropriate. He said that it is a dream comes true for the populace of Mayang Imphal that a world class Judo training centre was set up in the area.
