Charge hearing for drug seizure case fixed on July 8

IMPHAL, Jun 16: The Special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Court has fixed July 8 as the date for charge hearing regarding seizure of drugs from Imphal Airport on January 11, 2013.
CBI Special Crime Branch, Kolkata had submitted chargesheets against Chief Minister Okram Ibobi’s nephew Okram Henry and four others in the case on April 18.
The date was fixed after the CBI Counsel handed over all the relevant documents to all the accused through their defence counsels before the Court.
All the accused – Rajneesh Kumar and Ramveer Tyagi from Gaziabad, Sapam Angus alias Nanao alias Naoba, Md Rajauddin and Okram Henry – had already furnished PR bonds of Rs 1 lakh each.
Okram Henry, who fought the last State Assembly election on MSCP ticket in Wangkhei AC, did not appear before the Court on health grounds today.
His defence counsel B Bimoljt submitted application for dispensation on his behalf.
In the first summon on May 25, Henry and Angus appeared before the Court while Rajneesh Kumar and Ramveer Tyagi were absent.
The Court listed the case as the special trial CBI case few days after chargesheets were submitted against the accused.
On January 11, 2013, a team of Special Intelligence Unit, Manipur under the supervision of Inspector K Ranjit along with his team led by Sub-Inspector E Ajit seized seven unattended cartons which were suspected to contain contraband drugs from Imphal Airport.
The boxes were brought by an Air Deccan flight from Kolkata to Imphal.
The cartons were later opened in the presence of some witnesses and the SIU team recovered Robocoff tablets, Seafied tablets and Respified tablets from those boxes. The seven carton boxes were seized by the SIU team and handed over to Singjamei police station OC.
Seven days after the incident, a team of Imphal West Narcotic Cell arrested Md Rajauddin on January 18. During preliminary interrogation, Md Rajauddin allegedly admitted that he brought the seized contraband drugs from Kolkata.
He remained in the judicial custody till January 24, 2013 as per the order of the ND&PS Court.
The case was later handed over to CBI.
According to the charge sheet submitted against the accused, Sapam Argus was supposed to receive the consignment. After a few days of seizing the consignment, SIU Imphal West was disbanded by the State Government with immediate effect.
It is also mentioned in the charge sheet that Rajneesh Kumar is the proprietor of Mehak Pharmaceutical located at Mayur Vihar, New Delhi.
He allegedly purchased huge number of Robocoff tablets and Respified tablets from different pharmaceutical companies and sold it issuing false invoices to different chemist shops.
Ramveer Tyagi is the proprietor of IS Pharma and he purchased a huge amount of Seafied tablets from different pharmaceutical companies and sold it issuing false invoices to different medicine shops.
