Visually challenged students staged a protest at the western gate of SAI complex, Takyelpat.
A student said that they staged the protest in support of the ongoing pro-ILPS agitation spearheaded by JCILPS.
He said that the Government must safeguard the indigenous people of the State by converting the three Bills passed by the State Assembly into Acts at the earliest.
He further said that no non-local must be allowed to cast vote in the Imphal Municipal Corporation election to be held on June 2 and no non-locals must be permitted to contest election in any election in the State.
On the other hand, he observed that JCILPS must take up steps to prevent minor students from joining the ongoing agitation.
Stating that people must also avoid imposing unannounced and sudden bandhs, the student observed that such bandhs give lots of inconvenience to the public in general and poor people in particular.
Similar protests were also staged at different localities from Chingmeirong to Luwangsangbam on NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur road).
At some places, the protesters blocked one side of the road to stage the sit-in-protests.
Placards and banners that read ‘convert the three Bills passed by the State Legislative Assembly into Acts’, ‘release arrested students unconditionally’, ‘we condemn assault of students and women’ and ‘implement ILPS in the State’ were put up at all these localities.
Sit-in-protests were also staged at Sangakpham bazar, Laipham Khunou, Lei Ingkhol, Mantripukhri and Luwangshangbam.

On the other hand, a large number of womenfolk blocked NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) at Khumbong bazar to demand implementation of ILPS in the State.
Meanwhile, a large number of ILPS supporters took out a rally on Uripok-Kangchup road today.
The rally began from Shamushang area and moved towards Khwairamband bazar.
They were joined by the people of different localities of U-K road even as they were marching towards Khwairamband bazar. They raised slogans like ‘we condemn arrest of innocent students’, ‘we want ILPS’, ‘we demand ILPS’, ‘convert the three Bills into Acts’, ‘implement the three Bills at the earliest’, ‘delete the names of non-locals from the voter list’, ‘do not allow non locals to cast votes’ and ‘do not allow non-locals to contest elections’.
