NPF harps ‘Naga integration’

SENAPATI, Jun 29: A one day political conference cum interface of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Manipur State Union (MSU) was held today at Indoor Stadium, Senapati.
Participated by over 200 NPF workers and supporters, the conference also observed one minute silence to mourn the demise of NSCN-IM chairman Isak Chisi Swu at New Delhi after prolonged illness.
An interface session chaired by Worthing Horam, president, Youth Wing, NPF, Manipur was also held after the formal programme with the NPF central leaders and ADC Members, MLAs and State executive members. The functions of the party and its principles were deliberated keeping in focus the coming 2017 Manipur Assembly elections.
The conference was chaired by Veino Solomon, working president NPF-Manipur.
The mega conference was attended by NPF leaders including NPF President Dr Shiirhozelie Liezietsu, Yita-chu, Minister (School Education & SCERT) Nagaland who is also in-charge of NPF Manipur, NPF central leaders, Manipur NPF president Awangbou Newmai, Women and Youth wing leaders, ‘resigned’ MLAs L Dikho and Samuel Risom, three ADC Chairmen, ADC Members from Chandel, Tamenglong and Senapati, frontal bodies including UNC, ANSAM, NWU along with tribe Hohos and district apex bodies, district NPF leaders and dignitaries.
In his speech, NPF President, Dr Shürhozelie Lieziet- su highlighted the agenda of the party saying its primary focus is on the integration of the Naga inhabited areas, covering the Naga inhabited areas in Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Myanmar.
“Nagas belong to one and same family and we are Nagas by blood, not by choice,” the NPF president stated.
Coming down heavily on the three Bills in Manipur, Dr Shürhozelie slammed the Congress led Manipur Government saying that the tribal rights cannot be denied for benefit of another community. He lauded the four NPF MLAs for their bold and courageous step to resign.
While saying that the Congress Government under Ibobi’s leadership has been playing divisive politics which resulted in creating an atmosphere of hatred among the different sections of the people, he called for a good relationship and understanding between the party as well as the public. He appreciated the four NPF MLAs for sacrificing their powers and resigning from their posts.
The President NPF Manipur State unit affirmed that Naga People’s Front stand for the welfare of the Nagas and tribals with an intention to safeguard the people. The NPF is not only for election purpose but to fight against injustice and anti-people agendas, he said. While condemning the controversial three Bills in Manipur, the NPF president noted that it will oppose tooth and nail as long as it is against the rights of the tribals.
Minister Yitachu spoke on the genesis of the NPF and its journey towards unifying the Nagas politically and reaching out to Nagas of remote places like Burma. He further stressed the need for strengthening the party.
