The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Manipur and Mizoram conducted a public hearing on a petition filed by the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) for determination of generic ‘levellised tariff’ for solar rooftop projects with capacity size from 1 kW to 500 kW at Hotel Classic, Imphal today.

The petition was filed under section 61(h) and section 86(1)(e) of the Electricity Act, 2003 and clause 7 & clause 8 of the JERC for M&M (Terms and Conditions for Tariff Determination from Renewable Energy Sources) Regulations, 2010.

A panel comprising JERC (M&M) chairman RK Kishore, JERC (M&M) CE Lalekhareliana Pachnau, JERC assistant CE H Thanthinga, MANIREDA director L Manglem and MSPDCL MD and MANIREDA member secretary R Sudam heard the persons who had filed objections and suggestions.

It may be noted that MANIREDA proposed the ‘levellised tariff’ for solar rooftop projects without subsidy at Rs 9.50/kWh while with 70 percent subsidy at Rs 7.31/kWh and with 30 percent subsidy at Rs 4.41/kWh.

Speaking to mediapersons, Kishore said India has a target to use 15 to 20 percent energy from renewable energy sources and 15 percent of it will be from solar energy by the year 2022.

Manipur has a target of producing 105 megawatt of solar energy including 60 megawatt from solar rooftops and 45 megawatt from solar panel set up in self-owned open spaces, he added.

Since this public hearing on the tariff rate of the solar rooftop is completed, a decision will be taken on the issue after its expert examination at Aizwal, he further added.
