As the jurisdiction of the university extends to the whole country through Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Act, 2007, by the Government of India to open centres in tribal dominated states, acting accordingly, The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTU-RCM) was established in 2009 as a Regional Centre of IGNTU, Amarkantak, by the Vice-Chancellor Prof.C.D.Singh.

The IGNTU-RCM is presently functioning from a temporary campus situated at Adimjati Shiksha Ashram, Imphal. The permanent campus of IGNTU-RCM is located in the green and picturesque village of Makhan (Senapati District) which is 25 kms from Imphal (as seen in the pictures).

The construction of the campus was undertaken in the 301 acres large area of land allocated by the Government of Manipur. The campus already has different Post Graduate courses of different departments viz. Departments of Political Science and Human Rights, Sociology and Social Anthropology, Social Work, Physical Education and Tribal Studies offering Master Degree Programmes.

The campus has already started offering Ph.D course in Political Science and Social Work from academic session of 2014-15. The university is also going to start post graduate courses in Computer science in its regional campus from 2017.
