IMPHAL, Apr 18: For the first time, Shirui Lily Festival would be celebrated at the State level from May 16 to 20.

Earlier, the festival was scheduled to be held from May 5 to 9 but a meeting of the organising committee held today at the CM’s Secretariat decided to postpone the festival to May 16-20.
The festival will be opened at IFAD Ground, Shirui village and the closing function will be held at TNL Ground, Ukhrul district headquarters.

Several sub-committees have been constituted in order to ensure that the festival is held successfully. Around 40 stalls would be opened during the festival which would be organised at the cost of Rs one crore approximately.

The meeting held today decided to hand over the task of maintaining proper sanitation to PHED. Meanwhile, as declared by Chief Minister N Biren during his visit to Ukhrul district headquarters some days back, repairing of Ukhrul town roads has already started, informed a source.

  1. This is a very good initiative by the state government. The problems in Manipur can be solved by the Manipuris alone and no one else. This is a good beginning to encourage people from different ethnic tribes and places to interact among themselves. People to people interaction is the only way which can solve all malices. I would like to see Sangai festival celebrated in different district every year, so that everyone become aware of each other, recognise more of the similarities amongst us and shed the misunderstandings created by years of seperation. Moreover, no district will be left behind in the march towards development. Such festival can be a good platform to bring all the people together for confidence building and highlighting the grievances.
