One hurt in blast near Kasturi bridge

IMPHAL, Jun 7: At least one individual sustained minor injuries when a low intensity explosive, suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), exploded in front of a pharmacy located at Kasturi bridge at around 7 pm today.

The blast occurred in front of Mahavir Medicos, owned by one Ajay Kumar Jain (43) of Thangal Bazar, which is located a few meters away from Kasturi bridge on the northern side towards Thangal bazar, under Imphal West police station.

According to eye witnesses and the salesmen of the pharmacy, one individual came to buy medicines wearing a helmet and the blast occurred at the front portion of the store, near the shutter door, soon after he left.

It is highly suspected that the bomb might have been placed by the unidentified individual.
One passers-by sustained minor injuries on his left hand due to the explosion and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.

The injured has been identified as Rakesh Waikhom (38) of Kontha Khabam Heibong Makhong. His sister, Rinarani Waikhom who was present with him at the spot however escaped unhurt.

Soon after the blast, Imphal West SP Themthing Ngashangva rushed to the spot and inspected the site and its surrounding areas. A team of State forensic experts also reached the spot to conduct necessary investigation.

The city police has registered a case regarding the incident.
