IMPHAL, Jun 5: Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), one of the schemes taken up by the BJP-led NDA Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was launched at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound today in the presence of Chief Minister N Biren and DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh.
The launching ceremony was organised by State Level Co-ordinator, Oil Industry, Manipur under Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Biren said that PMUY is one of the 105 ambitious schemes launched by PM Narendra Modi.
He maintained that the scheme was launched with an aim to provide free LPG connections to BPL households in the country and replace the unclean cooking fuel mostly used in the rural areas with the clean and more efficient LPG.
He recalled that the scheme was launched by PM Narendra Modi on May 1, 2016 at Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. The CM assured that his Government will ensure proper implementation of the scheme in the State. A total of 2.43 lakh families including 1.27 families in the hills and 1.16 families in the valley have been identified to provide LPG connection under the scheme, he elaborated.
The CM handed over consumer kits to 20 women beneficiaries under the scheme. DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh appreciated CM Biren and his team for successfully implementing various schemes initiated by the NDA Government.
He wished that the State may make best use of the scheme.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam, MPs Dr T Meinya, Thangso Baite, Mary Kom and K Bhabananda attended the occasion as presidium members.
