IMPHAL, November 4: The 6th public hearing before the Committee on Re-organization of Administrative and Police District Boundaries in the State was held today at the office chamber of state chief secretary located at Old Secretariat, Imphal,

All Manipur United Clubs’ Organization, Eastern Kuki Chiefs’ Association and C Dougel gave their statement to the committee.

In the memorandum submitted to the reorganization committee, AMUCO stated that it strongly opposed the creation of any new district without reorganization into realistic manner and opined that each district should include both hill and valley portion to give ideal administrative convenience instead of demarcating on line of ethnicity.

AMUCO further pressed the authorities for the amendment and extension of MLR and LR Act, 1960 in view of solving myriad differences between hill and valley regions.

C Doungel, in the statement given before the committee, maintained that as far back as 1901, Sadar Hills was one administrative units of Manipur like Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Mao-Maram areas. Now people of Ukhrul and Tamenglong want Naga villages to be transferred to Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts respectively. If this argument is to be used, Kuki villages in these two districts should also come to Sadar Hills, he asserted.

He stated that the boundary of Sadar Hills boundary covered by Autonomous District Council (Hill Areas) Act, 1971 area as passed by the Parliament must be kept undisturbed. Further adjustment if desired may be done after the upgradation of Sadar Hills to a full-fledged district.

Representatives of Eastern Kuki Chiefs’ Association stated that the authorities concerned should include Kamjong sub-division of Ukhrul district under Moreh ADC in view of convenience of the people.
