IMPHAL, April 25: The All Manipur Students’ Union – Thoubal branch has today organised a sit in protest at Thoubal Mela ground demanding to award befitting punishment to Kongbrailatpam Dushmanta Sharma, 20 who has uploaded the doctored picture of a minor girl who had appeared in the just concluded HSLC exam.
During the protest, the students displayed placards which read as ‘Award Life Imprisonment to Dushmanta’, ‘Constitute Cyber Crime Investigation Cell’, ‘Save Girls from Cyber Crime’, ‘Punish the Culprit’, ‘Stop Cyber Crime’, etc.
During the sit in protest, the students of the Peace and Freedom Academy Thoubal Haotal, Paradise English School Thoubal Okram, Brilliant Academy Thoubal Mela Ground and also Evergreen Flower School took part in the sit in protest.
Before the sit in protest, the students also held a rally around Thoubal Bazar.
The rally started from 10 am and ended at 12:30 noon when the SDPO of the District N Modhunimai Singh instructed the student leaders to end the protest as the Cr PC 144 has already been imposed in and around Thoubal bazaar.
It may be mentioned that following the issue of escaping the cyber crime, accused Dushmanta Sharma from the custody of Thoubal police on April 17, the SP of the District K Radheshyam Singh has suspended the second OC of the Thoubal police station Md Kamaruddin, the IO of the case SI Robert and police Constable S Raju who was on santry post, had ordered for enquiry for disciplinary action against them.
In connection with the case, Dushmanta Sharma will appear before the Court of District and Session Judge S Ibomcha Singh after 13 days police custody remand.
