Stop all admn work in new dists : UNC

SENAPATI, May 19 : During today’s tripartite talk on the district creation issue, the United Naga Council (UNC) demanded from the State Government of Manipur representatives to put “in abeyance” the new district creation order.

The UNC team insisted that no visible administrative works other than developmental works should be taken up in those areas which fall under the new districts till such time the issue is resolved through dialogue. However, there was reservation from the State Government of Manipur representatives, according to sources.

Some participants of today’s talks disclosed to Newmai News Network that the UNC team also asked the representatives of the State Government of Manipur “whether they were politically mandated”. The UNC leaders also expressed their resentment on the “activities” of the Manipur Government on the newly created districts.

Meanwhile, ‘tripartite talk’ involving the United Naga Council (UNC), the Government of India and the State Government of Manipur reaffirmed the “focal point No 1 of agreement arrived at in the tripartite talk on March 19, 2017” between the three parties which states, “The grievances of the United Naga Council which led to the imposition of the economic blockade by them was recognized as there was non-adherence to the four Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the Government of India’s assurance on the matter. The Government of Manipur agrees to start consultation with all stakeholders to redress the same”.

Today’s talk was held held at DRDA Conference Hall in the district headquarters of Senapati where UNC president Gaidon Kamei, UNC general secretary S Milan, All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) president Seth Shatsang, Naga Women Union (NWU) president Asha Wungnam and others represented the UNC team while Satyendra Garg, Joint Secretary (NE), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) represented the Central Government.
The Government of Manipur was represented by Chief Secretary O Nabakishore Singh, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu and Commissioner (Works) K Radhakumar Singh. It was also agreed that the Government of Manipur would be represented at the political level in the next round of talks.

“Till such time an amicable settlement to the creation of the new district is arrived at, the Government of Manipur and the United Naga Council will mutually respect the points agreed upon in the tripartite talks held on March 19, 2017,” one point of the agreement stated.
