IMPHAL January 28: Three days after the confession of a cop shook the country, State Home minister Gaikhangam who is also the Deputy Chief Minister has stuck with the denial statement of Imphal West SP Dr Akoijam Jhaljit.
Speaking to media persons in the sideline of the opening function of the 6th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh football tournament at the Main Stadium, Khuman Lampak, Gaikhangam said “The SP in his statement has clarified and denied the allegations. I cannot comment further since it is sub-judice as the case is still pending in the court. We can only anticipate the end judgement of the court.”
When asked whether there was any query from the Centre on the episode, Gaikhangam said, “Additional Secretary Home informed me that central officials had called.”
The SP’s statement suffices, he said again without commenting further on a case that had led to a four-month long uprising in 2009.
On possibilities of reopening the case, he said it is upto the CBI to have the final say on this.
About the disappearance and security issue of Herojit, he said, “Security can be provided if required and if Herojit demands.”
