JAC suspends bandh, supporters say will continue

BISHNUPUR, January 20: The indefinite bandh along Tiddim Road imposed by several organizations from January 17 against the government’s decision of renaming Thangjing Sub-Division as Thangting Sub-Division has been suspended temporarily following an agreement reached with the government today.

Meanwhile, supporters of the bandh have pledged to continue the agitation till the government resolves the impasse.

The bandh was clamped jointly by JAC Tiddim; Thangjing Seva Mandal; Phamnaiba Cheirap Loishang; Kege Moirang Apunba Meira Lup; Historical Heritage Development Association Moirang; Iramdam Kanba Ima Lup; Ibudhou Thangjing Laithel Terakhongshangbi and several other organizations.

According to convener of JAC Tiddim S Kulla, the mutual agreement was arrived during a meeting between the government and the organizations convened at the Chief Minister’ office chamber today at 3.30 pm.

He said in the meeting, the government side was represented by CM Ibobi; MLA of Moirang constituency M Prithviraj; MLA of Kumbi constituency S Bira and MLA of Henglep constituency Manga Vaiphei.
