TRPC meeting held Transport Dept to streamline traffic regulation

IMPHAL, May 19:To ensure free movement of traffic in and around Imphal, a meeting of Traffic Regulation and Parking Committee (TRPC) which began yesterday at Conference Hall, Old Secretariat concluded today. Altogether, 26 agenda were discussed in the two- day meeting which was presided by Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar who was also the chairman of TRPC.
The Minister appealed to the general public, stake holders and media to extend cooperation while streamlining better transport system in the State . As desired by the Minister, the meeting of TRPC would be held every month to monitor the traffic regulations.
Transport Commissioner M Lakshmikumar Singh said that traffic lights which were installed at different location within Imphal area would be made functional within 6 months after clearing the liabilities and Transport Department would look after the traffic light.
To ensure safety of school children travelling in buses and other types of vehicles, the Transport Department, Government of Manipur has set certain conditions for transportation of children of educational institutions. The conditions set in the notification are complied by transporters of educational institution in the State of Manipur. School Vans were seen with strip/band of yellow colour for easy identification just below the window.
In order to ease traffic congestion during peak hours in Imphal area the meeting agreed that all type of heavy vehicles would be restricted from 9am to 12 noon and 3pm to 6pm everyday.
The meeting agreed to utilize the space above Naga Nallah (Concrete Slabs) for parking purposes. The PDA will take care of within 2 weeks time. Allotment of parking space at Khongnang Ani Karak for five petrol auto rickshaws at a time was considered in between the southern end of City Hospitals & Research Centre, Chingmeirong and LMS Law College gate.
The Transport Commissioner also suggested that as a precautionary measures to road safety, speed breakers and rumbers might be put along the NH in front of Manipur Secretariat.
The TRPC meeting was attended by representatives from various departments like Transport, Traffic Police, MAHUD, IMC, PWD and PDA. As media representative, president and secretary of AMWJU were also present in the meeting.
